Introduction to Custom Domains
Connecting a custom domain to your Ivonto store is an essential step in establishing a strong online presence. Instead of using the default Ivonto store URL (yourstore.ivon.to), you can opt for a distinctive domain like yourstore.com. This not only makes your store more memorable but also makes it easier for customers to find you online.
Requirements for Connecting a Custom Domain
To connect a custom domain to your Ivonto store, ensure that:
You are subscribed to a paid Ivonto plan.
You have purchased a root domain (e.g., yourstore.com) from a domain provider. Subdomains like www.yourstore.com or shop.yourstore.com can also be created once the root domain is set up.
Steps to Connect a Custom Domain
Step 1: Configure Your Domain on Ivonto
Log in to Ivonto Admin Panel: Access your store’s admin dashboard.
Navigate to Domain Settings:
Go to the "Settings" page from the left-hand menu.
Select "Domain" from the list of options.
Connect Your Custom Domain:
Click on the "Connect" button under the Custom Domain section.
Enter your custom domain (e.g., yourstore.com) in the input field.
Click the "Save" button to proceed.
Step 2: Update DNS Settings with Your Provider
To complete the connection, you need to update the DNS settings with your domain provider.
Access Your DNS Provider’s Settings: Log in to your DNS provider’s control panel.
Add a CNAME Record:
Add a new CNAME record for your root domain (e.g., yourstore.com).
Set the CNAME record to point to "yourstore.ivon.to".
Add a CNAME Record for the Subdomain (www):
Create another CNAME record for the "www" subdomain.
Point this CNAME record to the desired domain (e.g., www.yourstore.com).
By following these steps, your custom domain will be successfully connected to your Ivonto store.
Important Notes
DNS Propagation Delay: After updating your DNS settings, it can take between 24 to 72 hours for the changes to fully propagate across the Internet. This delay is typical and necessary for DNS changes to be recognized globally.
DNS Setup Example with Cloudflare: Here’s an example of how your DNS setup should look when using a provider like Cloudflare:
CNAME Record: yourstore.com → yourstore.ivon.to
CNAME Record: www.yourstore.com → yourstore.com
Ensuring Proper DNS Configuration:
CNAME/A Record Verification: Verify that both the root domain and the "www" subdomain are properly configured to avoid accessibility issues.
SSL/TLS Certificate: Ensure that your SSL/TLS certificate covers both the root domain and the "www" subdomain to prevent host errors.
Nameserver Recommendations:
Using Default Nameservers: It’s recommended to use the default nameservers provided by your domain provider. This ensures that while they handle your domain hosting, Ivonto will manage the hosting of your store.
A Records and IP Addresses: Ivonto does not support A records that rely on IP addresses, as changes to IP addresses can disrupt domain forwarding.
Changing Your Ivonto Store URL (yourstore.ivon.to)
If you prefer to update your store’s URL within the Ivonto platform (e.g., yourstore.ivon.to), follow these simple steps:
Log in to accounts.ivonto.com: Access your account and navigate to the "Settings" page.
Edit Your Store URL:
From the left-hand menu, select "Domain."
Click the "Edit" button next to your current store name.
In the popup window, update the connected store URL with your desired store name.
Click the "Save" button to apply the changes.
